This Privacy Policy explains how FutureTrove ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the FutureTrove mobile application ("App") and related services ("Services").

By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Data We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and password (securely hashed). If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple identity token and, optionally, your name and email as provided by Apple. We do not have access to your Apple ID password.

Video and Text Entries

FutureTrove allows you to record video diaries and write text notes. Your video files are stored securely in cloud storage (Amazon Web Services S3). Audio from your videos is transcribed to text using a third-party transcription service (AssemblyAI) to enable features like AI-generated summaries. Your text notes (up to 250 characters) are stored in our database.

Device Information

We collect your device push notification token (via Expo) to send you notifications about unlocked entries and recording reminders. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage analytics beyond what is necessary to operate the Service.

Subscription and Purchase Data

Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. We store a record of your subscription plan and transaction history (plan type, amount, date) for account management purposes.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and maintain the App and its features
  • To transcribe video audio into text (via AssemblyAI)
  • To generate personalized "Life Trove" summaries using AI (via OpenAI) based on your transcripts and text entries
  • To send push notifications and email reminders about recording windows and unlocked entries
  • To manage your subscription status and video credits
  • To respond to support requests

3. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services, only as necessary to operate the App:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS S3) — Secure storage for video files and thumbnails. Data is stored in the US (us-east-1 region) and encrypted at rest.
  • AssemblyAI — Transcribes audio from your video recordings into text. AssemblyAI processes your audio via temporary, time-limited access URLs. We do not share your account information with AssemblyAI.
  • OpenAI — Generates personalized Life Trove summaries by analyzing your transcripts and text entries. Your content is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. We do not use your content to train AI models, and OpenAI's data usage policies apply.
  • RevenueCat — Manages in-app purchase subscriptions, entitlements, and transaction events. RevenueCat receives your anonymous user ID and subscription status.
  • Expo — Delivers push notifications to your device using your push token.
  • Resend — Sends transactional email notifications (entry unlocks, recording reminders). Resend receives your email address for delivery purposes only.
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL) — Hosts our database. Your account data, entry metadata, and transcripts are stored here.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. AI Features

FutureTrove offers an AI-powered "Life Trove" feature that generates a personalized summary of your entries. When this feature is used:

  • Your transcripts and text entries are sent to OpenAI's API for processing
  • The generated summary is stored in our database and displayed to you in the App
  • We do not use your content to train AI models
  • OpenAI processes your data according to their API data usage policies, which do not use API inputs for model training

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), presigned URLs with time-limited access for video files, and secure token-based authentication (JWT).

While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data — Retained as long as your account is active
  • Video files and entries — Retained as long as your account is active. You may delete individual entries from within the App.
  • Transcripts and AI summaries — Retained as long as the associated entry or account exists
  • Transaction records — Retained for billing and account management purposes

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information via your profile settings
  • Delete your account and associated data by contacting us
  • Opt out of email notifications via your profile settings in the App
  • Opt out of push notifications via your device settings

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. Children

FutureTrove is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.

9. Purchases and Payments

All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Purchases are subject to Apple's terms and conditions and privacy policy. To request a refund, please contact Apple directly through the App Store. RevenueCat acts as a service provider to manage subscription status on our behalf.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
